About

Antonio Marco Mangione, a visionary Italian entrepreneur whom I crossed paths with in 2017 during my academic exchange in Turin, had a dream - to create a park using zero-emission recycled materials. This park, named Reland, would serve as an educational and entertaining space for citizens while also educating future generations to appreciate and care for the environment. Additionally, it would train professionals and enthusiasts in architecture, art, and design to repurpose materials. However, the park's construction was delayed due to the pandemic and a lack of financial resources. Therefore, options were to either wait longer or seek alternative means to finance its development. As a solution, I assisted in pivoting the idea of the park into a brand that provides consultancy services to companies interested in adopting sustainable practices.

- Branding -

Research

In order to execute the re-branding project for Reland, a critical step was to gain insight into the perception of the park among individuals. This entailed evaluating the perceived value that the creation of such a park would hold. Subsequently, the identified values and objectives were translated into a communication project to reinforce the brand's messaging.

Concept

In order to execute the re-branding project for Reland, a critical step was to gain insight into the perception of the park among individuals. This entailed evaluating the perceived value that the creation of such a park would hold. Subsequently, the identified values and objectives were translated into a communication project to reinforce the brand's messaging.

Logo Composition

Identity

The brand identity manual of Reland is a comprehensive document that outlines the guidelines for creating and maintaining the brand's visual and messaging elements. It includes detailed information about the brand's logo, typography, color palette, imagery, and tone of voice. The manual serves as a reference guide for anyone involved in creating communications and marketing materials for the brand, ensuring they are consistent with its image and values. The manual also provides guidance on how to apply the brand identity across different mediums, such as print, digital, and environmental graphics, to ensure that the brand is presented cohesively and effectively.

Website and Social Media

As the lead designer for Reland, I was responsible for creating the brand-new website for the organization. This involved working closely with the founder to fully understand the specific functionalities and features needed to effectively showcase their work and services. I then designed and developed a user-friendly, visually engaging website reflecting the Reland brand identity. Overall, the project was a great success, and the new website has helped Reland reach a wider audience and promote its mission more effectively.

Video

After developing the brand identity manual for Reland, the last step was to create a short video that could communicate the brand's mission, values, and vision concisely and engagingly. The video needed to capture the essence of Reland's commitment to sustainability, education, and innovation while showcasing the unique ecosystem approach that defines the brand. To achieve this goal, the video was carefully crafted to convey a compelling story that resonated with the target audience. It highlights Reland's commitment to creating a better world through sustainable practices. The narration was crafted with care to be informative and inspirational, underscoring the brand's key messages memorably and engagingly. By distilling the essence of the Reland brand into a short, impactful video, the brand could connect with a broader audience and build momentum for its mission.

- Service Design -

Formarts

As the Chief Designer for Reland, I was tasked with developing the company's service offerings or "formats" for both the Business and Education categories. My work included conducting extensive research and ideation to create workshops that promote sustainability and a circular economy. I designed and prototyped these workshops and tested them to ensure they were effective and impactful. For example, the Education workshops were explicitly geared toward educating young people about sustainability and the circular economy. In contrast, the Business workshops were intended to raise awareness of sustainability among companies and help them transition to a sustainable model. Overall, my work with Reland's service design has helped promote sustainability and circular economy practices in the educational and business sectors.

Reuse Game

The reuse game is one of the most innovative formats I designed for Reland. It is a powerful tool for creating awareness about the circular economy in a fun and engaging way. The game is based on gamification principles, meaning that participants learn about the circular economy through play. By coloring and playing with pieces of cardboard, they get a hands-on experience of how waste can be transformed into a valuable resource. The reuse game is not only entertaining, but it also has a solid educational value. Participants learn about the principles of the circular economy, how to identify waste streams, and how to transform them into new products. What makes the reuse game even more remarkable is the fact that it has a tangible outcome. At the end of the game, participants leave with a functional lamp made from the cardboard pieces they colored during the game. This lamp is a physical reminder of the principles of the circular economy and a practical example of how waste can be transformed into something useful. Overall, the reuse game is a highly effective tool for creating awareness about the circular economy and inspiring people to take action toward a more sustainable future.

Modulo Young

Modulo Young is a service format of Reland specifically designed for high school students to address sustainability issues using locally available resources. The format aims to create awareness about sustainability and its importance among the youth by guiding students through ideation, prototyping, and testing complex sustainability-related projects.During different sessions, students work together as a team to develop innovative ideas that can help create a sustainable future. In addition, the format encourages students to think critically and creatively as they learn how to make the most of the resources available to them in their local communities. Ultimately, Modulo Young helps students develop the skills to create positive change and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Webinar CE

As part of my role at Reland, I was also responsible for designing webinars as a service to help companies establish circularity strategies. These webinars provide valuable insights and guidance on how to redesign products and services, reduce waste, and improve the efficiency of their processes, all while generating innovation in their business model. By offering these webinars, we were able to help companies embrace sustainability as a core principle of their operations, and contribute to a more circular economy.

- Start Up -

Business Plan

As a team member supporting the creation of the startup Reland, I played an important role in the early stages of the company. My contribution involved working alongside the core team to develop a comprehensive business model and plan, including setting financial and economic goals. By collaborating closely with the rest of the team, I was able to better understand the startup's core business operations, available resources, and long-term vision. This understanding helped me create products and services fully aligned with the company's overall strategy and goals, ensuring that my design process effectively achieved the desired outcomes. Overall, being part of the team that helped shape Reland's initial direction was a rewarding and impactful experience, and I am proud to have played a role in the company's success.

Pitch & Funds

As the Chief Designer with a solid understanding of Reland's vision and services, I played a crucial role in presenting and pitching the startup at different events. I was responsible for creating visually appealing presentations that showcased Reland's business model, services, and impact on sustainability.Through practical communication skills and design expertise, I captured the attention of potential investors and partners and established brand awareness for Reland. This helped the startup to secure funding and support from the local community.

Their core values include simplicity, represented by everyday language and practicality, and coherence, which is our top priority and a timeless value. Miss Market aims to achieve financial success with integrity and purpose.

- Branding -

Worshop

As a branding consultant, I joined the Miss Market team to establish a strong brand identity. To achieve this, I run a workshop to help clarify its mission and vision and define its core values. During the workshop, we engaged in fruitful discussions that helped us identify the key elements of their brand, including their target audience, unique selling proposition, and brand personality. We also established a tone of voice that would be used in all their communications.

Identity

Once we had a clear understanding of the brand, we could develop a visual identity that reflected its values and personality, also creating the brand identity manual. This included a monogram, color palettes, and consistent typography across all their marketing materials. By consolidating its brand identity, Miss Market created a solid and memorable impression on their target audience, which led to increased brand awareness and customer engagement.

Website

As part of the brand consolidation process for Miss Market, I was tasked with redesigning its website to reflect its new brand identity. The old website had so much information without hierarchies, so I had to completely restructure the site to make it easy to navigate and find the relevant information. I started by analyzing the content, identifying what was necessary and what could be removed or consolidated.Next, I developed a clear hierarchy for the pages, ensuring the most important information was easily found. Finally, I designed a clean, modern layout that matched the brand's aesthetic and made the site visually appealing. The result was a website that was visually appealing, user-friendly, and easy to navigate, reflecting the client's brand and values.

Social media

As part of the team that manages the social media for Miss Market, I support creating and curating content for various platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The process starts with brainstorming different concepts and themes that align with the brand's messaging and values. Once the concept is approved, I work with the team on creating different versions of the content tailored for each platform, taking into account the audience and the format. Maintaining a consistent and engaging brand voice across all social media platforms is essential to increase brand awareness and customer engagement.

- Products -

T-shirt Collection

As an industrial designer, I was able to leverage my skills to create innovative products for Miss Market that address the need for financial education. One exciting achievement was leading a team to create a collection of t-shirts with a QR code linked to a finance vocabulary website. From ideation to production, I was in charge of the entire process, ensuring that the final product met our client's needs. Additionally, I oversaw the photo shoot of the product.

Baby Body

I also had the opportunity to work with Miss Market and another company in Turin to create a body for babies that grows with the child and serves as a tool for new parents to learn about finance. In this project, I was responsible for proposing the graphics to be printed on the bodysuit, which was also connected to a website with financial vocabulary for parents to learn from.In addition, I collaborated closely with the other company's team, managing the communication and delivering the necessary files for printing. This project allowed me to apply my design skills to a meaningful cause and gave me valuable experience in project management and communication with external partners.

Presentations

Further to the design work I did for Miss Market's products and marketing, I was also responsible for creating presentations for events where Vincenza presented her startup. These presentations included showcasing Miss Market's mission, values, and products offered. I enjoyed this part of the job as it allowed me to collaborate with Vincenza to ensure her vision was effectively communicated to the audience. Besides, I used my design skills to create engaging and visually appealing presentations that left a lasting impression on the attendees.

About

In 2020, I took part in a European project at Politecnico di Milano to support local businesses, particularly restaurants, by developing innovative products and services. The project was an extensive undertaking, with various stages of development and evolution. It began as an instrument to help restaurants provide live shows for their customers at home in Europe, which then progressed to creating digital menus using straightforward tools.Later, with a new team of engineers and a restaurant owner, we created a digital dashboard for individuals in two neighborhoods in Bogota, Colombia, to find the daily menu near them. Ultimately, I developed a free web app for small restaurants to easily create and manage digital menus, allowing them to add, edit, or delete items as needed.

Build a public installation representing a "chain reaction" that comes to life when all the pieces are connected into one circuit. Each group of participants must be able to design, build and assemble all together.

Time: two months

Workshop facilitation - workshop design - sustainability - education

About

This project was born with the idea that reusing objects and recycling what seems to be waste is a form of education in sustainability. In addition, raising the awareness of children, girls, and adults around these issues through a participatory process is a step towards greater widespread understanding, capable of activating new daily habits and expanding the boundaries of the community that carries these issues forward. The heart of this collective action is education, understood as a cross-age process that starts at an early age, passing through University and Higher Education to adults. The aim of the Ri/Uso a catena project is to build a public installation that represents a significant "chain reaction," which will come to life and be connected thanks to the putting into a circuit of many pieces of "chain" that each group of participants will be able to design, build and then assemble them all together.

Find innovative ways to reuse and recycle materials to create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable indoor spaces that meet the specific needs of Social Cooperative Paradigma.

Time: one month

Workshop facilitation - workshop design - interior design

About

The challenge for the workshop run with Social Cooperative Paradigma was to renovate their new premises using reused, recycled, and renewable materials. Social Cooperative Paradigma is a social cooperative that develops scientific intervention models and social projects for disabled people and minors. The main objective of the project was to experiment with the use of recycled materials for real estate redevelopment and designing indoor furnishing environments according to criteria of involvement and sustainability. The project was supported by the broader project AxTO (Azioni per le periferie torinesi), which aimed to connect intellectual and manual resources to promote sustainable urban development. The project had three main spaces to be created: a display area for food that also served as a supporting area for buffets and storage, a bathroom that was entirely redone by expanding the main wall and divided by the entrance, dressing room, and toilet, and a dining area that was created by removing a division wall and creating a unique space.

Enhancing the space
through sustainability

One

This area is the main one as it connects the kitchen and allows the display of the product they usually offer to people in events such as buffets and lunches. The main furniture for the display area was made with exhibitors and desks that were considered waste and were about to be sent to the trash. The painting was a process of gathering and mixing old paint people had at home.

Two

The bathroom area is divided into three different zones to make it usable for more purposes simultaneously. A dressing room, an entrance, and the toilet. There are sliding doors to make it accessible to people in a wheelchair. The tiles were the way to create a totally new bathroom. The tiles for the wall are made with recycled glass, and then a green color is added. As for the floor tiles, a pattern was created by combining the available group of tiles people from the neighborhood donated.

Three

The dining area is an ample space to have as many tables as they had before the intervention. To do so, it was necessary to remove a middle wall, and the ceiling was painted dark to make it look lower. In the dining area, four chandeliers were made from the waste of metal sheets to create small car pieces. By bending and forming a cylinder, it was possible to install the lighting for the whole area.

Time: one week

Workshop facilitation - fast prototyping - user research

About

The challenge for the workshop was to develop a process for transforming the post-industrial waste from curtains manufacturing, specifically residues of polyester fabric woven in alternating stripes, into a marketable product. Enves Diseño is located in Bogota, Colombia, and is committed to sustainable development, which is why they want to design eco-innovative products with high-quality standards. The workshop participants needed to develop a way to repurpose the polyester fabric waste in an environmentally friendly and economically viable way. They considered factors such as the properties of the fabric waste, the available resources and equipment, and the market demand for sustainable products. The end goal was to create a product that could be sold to customers who value sustainability and were willing to pay a premium for eco-friendly products. The final product had to be high quality and visually appealing while being ethically and environmentally responsible.Overall, the workshop's challenge was combining creativity, innovation, and sustainability to transform waste into a valuable and marketable product.

- Process -

Before

The first phase of the workshop involved interviewing the company owners to better understand their objectives and the specific challenge they wanted to address - transforming post-industrial waste from curtains manufacturing into a marketable product. This also involved collecting data and materials necessary for the workshop, such as information about the type of fabric waste, available resources and equipment, and market demand for sustainable products. Based on this information, documents were prepared to send to workshop participants, outlining the challenge, expectations, and guidelines for the workshop. This phase was crucial in ensuring that all participants had a clear understanding of the challenge and were equipped with the necessary information to develop creative and sustainable solutions.

During

The second phase of the workshop was held in a hybrid mode, where the first three days were conducted online and the prototyping and interviews were done in person. To facilitate the activities, a virtual board using MIRO was used where each participant had their working area, as well as some communal areas for teamwork. The prototyping process was a collaborative effort involving all team members, and the resulting prototype was prepared for user feedback. On the last day of the workshop, interviews were conducted to gain a clear understanding of the necessary changes to test an actual product for the market. This phase was essential in enabling the workshop participants to apply their creative ideas and solutions to the specific challenge of transforming post-industrial waste from curtains manufacturing into a marketable product, while also ensuring that the product was both sustainable and met the needs of potential customers.

After

The last phase of the workshop involved presenting the prototype of the product developed by the participants, followed by delivering the results to the company, which included a clear vision of a project for a marketable product using their waste material. This phase focused on incorporating user feedback to make the necessary changes for the final product. This phase was crucial in demonstrating the feasibility of transforming post-industrial waste from curtains manufacturing into a marketable product and showcasing the potential of sustainable lamp design to create value from this particular waste material.By the end of the workshop, the company had a clear roadmap for developing a sustainable product using the waste material they had from the manufacturing of curtains. In addition, the participants gained valuable experience and insights into the eco-innovation process.
